The position Paper developed by the IT-EX is focused on the strategic role of trade fairs and congresses in supporting Italy’s economic development and international positioning.
In a global landscape marked by increasing competition, technological transitions and geopolitical tensions, these events are emerging as key economic infrastructures and effective tools of industrial policy.
Trade fairs play a crucial role in fostering the internationalization of companies, particularly SMEs, by creating opportunities for direct interaction between businesses, buyers, research institutions and public stakeholders. Italy holds a strong position within the European exhibition landscape, thanks to events deeply rooted in the productive districts of the Made in Italy system.
However, addressing global competition requires a coordinated strategy involving the exhibition industry, public institutions and economic diplomacy. Strengthening the independence of Italian trade fairs, attracting major international events and supporting innovation are essential to reinforcing the country’s competitiveness and promoting growth and international cooperation.
